Crofton lies to the west of Orpington town
centre and sits parallel to the busy Crofton Road. North of
the road, mid-war semis and bungalows with neatly tended gardens
line avenues and closes. Kelvin Parade provides a busy collection
of local shops alongside a pleasant leafy green. The area's
best housing is situated to the south of the Crofton Road before
you descend the hill into Orpington. Larger mid-war semis and
a number of detached properties sit along wider, leafier roads
than those to the north. As you travel east down the hilly descent
towards the town centre, the housing becomes smaller, and predominantly
1950's semi-detached and terraced.
Petts Wood, north of Orpington, has its own bustling parade
of shops along Queensway and Station Square where the local
train station, one stop on from Orpington, serves the area with
a regular service into London. Shops along Queensway are more
utilitarian in style, whilst those found in Station Square have
a quaint, village feel about them. Petts Wood's housing to the
east and west of the station comprises of neat roads of mid-war
and 1950's built semis. Larger detached properties lie to the
north along the roads off Woodland Way, the grandest of which
are to be found at the far end of Birchwood Road as you head
towards Chislehurst.
