Elmers End high street surrounds a large
green that acts as a busy junction for most of the area's roads
into Croydon, Beckenham or London. The parade provides a busy
collection of pubs, convenience shops and fast food outlets.
Flats and modern purpose built apartment blocks can be found
close by to both the railway station and large Tesco's supermarket
on the west side of the busy Croydon Lane. Housing on the surrounding
streets is predominantly post 1930's semis and terraces, although
these become larger as you move closer to Beckenham and its
leafy, tree lined Victorian roads. Further apartments and developments
of modern town hoses can be found as you continue along the
busy Croydon Road into neighbouring Beckenham.
Upper Elmers End, which leads on to Eden Park, has a large number
of small 1930's semis, a majority of which are council maintained.
As you travel east to the small parade of shops by Eden Park
station, the housing become larger and privately owned, although
still terraced and semi-detached in style. A small number of
larger detached properties surround Eden Park railway station,
one stop on from Elmers End.
