Situated to the south of Orpington and
under 5 miles from the M25, Farnborough Village has retained
a great deal of its old charm and character. The village itself
lies separated from its more suburban quarters by the busy Farnborough
Way. To the south of this road, which provides the main route
to the M25 from Bromley and beyond, the village and high street
remain framed by open fields and farmland. A bustling parade
of convenience shops and pubs can be found, off of which cul-de-sacs
and small closes house semi and detached houses of varying ages
and styles. Older, period terraces and properties border the
village high street whilst the remainder of the housing is post
1960's.
Housing to the north of Farnborough Way, heading towards Orpington,
is more suburban in character than that found in the village.
1930's terracing and semis lie in tight avenues and drives.
As you near Orpington these properties become larger with a
number of detached houses punctuating the housing in tree lined
roads. The western edge of Farnborough is dominated by its large
hospital that is surrounded by a number of modern apartment
developments.
Locksbottom high street provides a busy collection of shops
(including a vast Sainsbury's), banks and restaurants. Just
west of the high street lies Farnborough Park, a private estate
of substantial £1 million-plus bracket houses, popular with
city professionals.
