Once an old nineteenth railway suburb of London, much of Wallington is Victorian in character immediately surrounding its station, which lies just off the main high street. Regular train services serve both London Bridge and Victoria ensuring that the town is always in demand with commuters. Grand Victorian houses now converted to flats can be found in the roads to the north of the railway station whilst the south of Wallington now contains the smarter properties. Wallington high street itself is a bustling and busy parade of shops, pubs and restaurants. Blocks of recently built apartments and flats can be found to the south of the high street along the Woodcote Road heading to Purley. Large and small Victorian houses dominate roads such as Stafford Road and Mellows Park whilst grander, detached Edwardian houses can be found in Woodcote Avenue. To the far eastern edge of Wallington and separated by Foresters Drive, lies the Roundhaw estate. Built in the 1960's and 1970's the estate comprises of largely council owned flats and small houses.
