Both Victorian railway suburbs, built to
house the working classes within an easy commute to London.
Victorian terraces predominate in Leyton, although the occasional
council block can be found close to the town centre. Leytonstone
is slightly more expensive, with the best properties nearest
Wanstead. Traffic can be a problem with the much contested new
M11 link road now passing straight through Upper Leytonstone.
House prices have risen over recent years as neighbouring Hackney's
prices spiral higher and people seek better value for money
in neighbouring boroughs. Central line tube services into London
provide a fairly painless journey to work.
